Xeriscape
Xeriscape in northern Utah — cost, options and what’s included, with real project photos. Licensed & insured. Free estimates from EC Hardscape & Concrete.
Northern Utah is in a long-running drought, outdoor watering eats up the majority of home water use, and districts like Weber Basin have tightened allocations. Water-wise xeriscape is the answer — and it's nothing like the gravel yards of the past. EC Hardscape & Concrete designs and installs modern xeriscape that layers drought-tolerant and native plantings with decorative rock, boulders, and clean hardscape for a yard that looks intentional year-round on a fraction of the water. We handle full lawn and park-strip conversions, tie the design into your patio, walkways, and driveway, and build it to qualify for Utah water-wise rebate programs (turf-replacement incentives have run as high as roughly $3 per square foot through Utah Water Savers — we design to the current program and point you to it). And under Utah law (SB152), your HOA can’t stop you from replacing thirsty turf with a water-wise landscape.
Every estimate is free, on-site, and itemized. See our full pricing guide for how this service compares to our other work, or browse the project gallery to see recent examples.

How much can I get back in Utah water-wise rebates?
Programs like Utah Water Savers have offered turf-replacement rebates as high as about $3 per square foot, plus per-tree incentives — but amounts and eligibility vary by water district and change over time. We design your project to qualify and point you to the current program before you start.
Can my HOA stop me from removing my lawn?
No. Utah's SB152 (2022) prohibits HOAs from banning water-wise landscaping like xeriscape and Localscapes-style designs. We can provide plans to submit for approval.
Is xeriscape just rocks?
Not at all — modern water-wise design blends drought-tolerant and native plants, decorative rock, boulders, and hardscape into a layered, designed look that happens to use very little water.
How much does xeriscape cost — and is it worth it?
Every yard is custom, but the math is strong in Utah: rebates offset a chunk of the install, and you save on water every month while cutting mowing and upkeep. We give you a clear, itemized on-site estimate.
What's a park-strip conversion?
The park strip is the band between the sidewalk and street — one of the thirstiest, hardest-to-water spots. Converting it to rock, edging, and tough plantings is a popular, high-impact first project.
